Review: Bones (Season 4)

Bones manages to retain its place as my favourite series. I particularly like the last three episodes I watched, The Double Death of the Dearly Departed, Mayhem on a Cross and The Girl in the Mask.

The way they put some jokes into a particular episode is awesome. Many of the funniest scenes could be seen in the ‘The Double Death of the Dearly Departed’, which started when Brennan or “Bones” as Booth loves to call her, thought that their coworker was murdered and then convinced Booth the FBI agent to steal the body during his wake.

The expression on Hodgins’ face when he saw what they do was priceless, his attempts to make his speech while watching them dragging the body out of the window was hilarious.

I never laughed that hard during other Bones’ episodes. Not only it was incredibly funny, the mystery that they tried to solve somehow reminded me of ones written by Agatha Christie, it was that good! Hilariously excellent!

Star Struck

I have a tendency to liking practically almost everybody, which to my consternation has become a sort of private joke for some close friends – honestly, what’s wrong with seeing the best in other people and overlooking their petty jabs and snide remarks? And I do have one or two people who I can’t stand either.

Anyway, I’m digressing. Although I like most of those people I know, even some who can’t be tolerated by my close friends, I’m not easily impressed. It takes a lot to impress me. So, I’m rather ashamed to admit that I found my self to be enamored, enchanted and charmed by the first couple of the United States.

Whenever I watch the news about G 20, I’m more interested in catching the glimpses of the winsome smiles of the President, or hearing his rather piquant diction, or seeing his engaging attitudes rather than what important decisions have been reached. I’m also interested in seeing how the First Lady interacts with other people around her.

I don’t see Barrack Obama as a President – for I definitely have no affection for politicians, but rather as someone fascinating, entrancing and worth to be looked at and watched for.

These are probably common symptoms often experienced by one who idolizes his idols. The problem is I don’t idolized people. Despite the fact that I like almost everyone, my liking rarely ever accompanied by high regards nor admiration for their characters and personalities. It has more to do with the fact that I’m not easily bothered or offended by what other people say or do.

So why do I have these strange reactions to Obama and his lady? I think the only explanation is I’m definitely star-struck!

Rewarding the Crooks

No, I’m not talking about the likes of those who work for AIG, or other fancy financial institutions who operate in plush offices on the high street. The crooks I’m referring to work on the streets, literally.

They wear no white collars nor got millions of dollar bonuses from the tax payers’ money. They do however manage to con some money right out of the pockets of the gullible and or selfish public. A pittance it may be, but it never fails to rile me.

I’m ranting about those people who work in a group in the intersections, pretending to regulate traffic while actually trying to create a nightmarish jam. One that is so impossible to untangle without their help.

Whenever I become one of their helpless victims, I fervently wish I’m with the police or in the army so that I could stop my car, step out, and haul them all to the office to scare the living out of them.

My rage is divided between solely directed towards these low lives, and the stupid commuters who gave them some money for giving them a way by stopping other cars and ignoring the traffic light – yes, sometimes these people are operating in the intersections where the traffic lights work just fine.

One of the things that I can’t stand is stupidity. And selfishness. Unfortunately, whenever one is trapped in that horrible situation, one can see them a plenty. I have to swallow my rage every time I see a driver handing out money to the very culprit who creates the hell that we experienced.

I have to take a deep breath to stop my self from opening my window and yell to the other driver who is in a precious position to untangle the traffic simply by stopping and letting the other driver drive through, but being stupid or selfish, he chose to follow the order given by those crooks to keep going and drive his car right to the very center of the chaos to create more impossible knots.

Our streets are hazardous and horrendous enough without letting senseless, selfish and indiscipline people running amok with creative crooks to make driving a more trying experience than it already is.

None should be rewarded for doing something wrong. It doesn’t make sense to give money to the very people who make your life difficult in the first place. If we really want to stop this bad practice, we should lock them all behind bars and throw away the keys to the deep sea. And say good riddance...

Forgotten and Unappreciated

Why did our ancestors fight for our independence? Presumably, it was because they wanted a better future for their beloved country and countrymen. Ironically, once the independence was won, their sacrifices rapidly faded from the memory of the very people they were fighting for.

Those very people prefer to busy themselves with fights to win the biggest portion of whatever wealth, power and other benefits they could grab for themselves. Wealth, power, and advantages which were bought with the bloods, lives and tears of our fallen, maimed and surviving heroes, most of whom now live in a very poor condition.

They are left to fend for themselves when they are no longer in shape to do so. When they have no one else to turn to, the very country and people they were defending and fighting for also turned their collective ungrateful backs on them.

It’s heartbreaking to see an elderly who still has to slave over and worry about their next meals. It hurts just to imagine how lonely and bleak the future might be for them.

How could we talk about humanity, conscience, and other values when we let our seniors wander on the street unattended? How could we talk about a better future when we conveniently forget those who forgot about themselves for our sake have no future to talk about?

It’s appalling how our country/government treats those who serve it. It’s an outrage to see those in power compete to enrich themselves while the very people they suppose to serve live a subsistence existence. It’s shameful that no body cares enough to fight for their cause.

What do they get every time we celebrate our independence day? How many people even remember that some of our heroes are actually still alive?

We should be ashamed that they live long enough not to enjoy the benefit of what they were fighting for but to know that they have been forgotten.

It Grows on You

How similar are you with your best friends? Stupid question I know. So, I’m not going to talk about similarities which go without question. What matters is how different are you with your buddies.

Don’t expect me to give wise advice or anything close to enlightening regarding how to improve your friendship despite your differences, because I’m already resigned to my fate. You could not change other people no matter how much you want it. You either love them the way they are or you don’t.

Compare to most of my Indonesian compatriots, I could say that I’m a relatively punctual person. But compare to my best friends I’m definitely a timer. When I say we meet at 8 a.m. I really mean 8 a.m. With 2 or 3 minutes grace period due to differences in our watches.

When I say 8 a.m., I don’t mean for them to start leaving their homes at 8 a.m. But somehow that’s how they translate it. In case you’re reading this blog, yes, I’m talking about you guys…

I used to get so frustrated and riled because of your unpunctuality. But somehow after all these years, the knowledge that you will definitely be late regardless how fervently you promise to be on time starts to amuse me.

Whenever you’re late, I no longer feel like screaming, I might still deliver a small comment about the time, but just on the principle.

If you happen to read this, don’t use it as an excuse to give yourselves an extra time!

Travel Weary

Do I like traveling? Sure I do – as long as the itinerary includes good accommodation meaning clean bed and bath rooms and culinary ventures. The problem is I’m not a good traveler. I got sea sick, car sick, train sick, and air sick. As if those are not enough, I’m afraid of height and have a small case of claustrophobia.

Perhaps I wasn’t meant for this era wherein we have to constantly put our faith in aircrafts, elevators and sky scrapers, but neither could I imagine myself living in the dark ages with its limited conveniences.

I think I deserved few pats in the back for traveling to Makassar and Kendari in two weeks especially with the kind of weather we’re having at the moment. Not to mention the fact that I was also under the weather right before the trip to Makassar, and I had a small misgiving when I got Kendari’s flight schedule, which was proven to be correct. The flight was delayed for few hours.

The only consolation was that I got wonderful companions that made time flew.

Feeling the Pinch

Despite what seemingly to be a global concern for the economy, I was fortunate enough not to have to worry about tightening my belt. Not because I’m outrageously wealthy for I’m definitely not, nor would I ever be being a civil servant that I am.

The secret lies in the fact that I was one of few people who live their life free of debts. I strongly feel that if you don’t have money, you don’t go out looking around for something to buy. And I hate insurance and credit card with a passion so I try as much as I could not to give them my hard earned money. Too bad one can’t really have a comfortable, free of worry life without them.

However, believing how evil and unfair a credit could be, I finally join the rest of human kinds who buy things on credit. I hate the fact that I’m subjugating myself to the very system which I passionately detest. I hate the fact that I’m forcing myself to buy thing which is beyond my means to pay in cash.

But everyone else around me – that translates as my family and my close friends – told me that that’s exactly how things are done. If they expect that to make it easier for me to swallow the fact that I’m now in debt, it doesn’t work.

I’m so used to spend my limited money as I wish. I’m so used to indulge my small vices without having to worry about setting some money aside to pay bills or credit. Although I’m far from rich, I always feel that I am simply because I’m able to buy pretty much whatever I want whenever I want it.

Now, thanks to the new debt I put myself into I can no longer do that. I should start counting every penny. From now on I must become a miser. How I hate a miser! I keep telling myself that in a few years I won’t regret it, that it’s a good move, a good investment. Perhaps if I keep saying it I’ll start to believe it.

What Israel Has Achieved with Her Slaughter in Gaza

I was appalled when I heard the Israelis’ latest attack was directed to a cemetery. As if the outrageous previous attack on a school with UN flag wasn’t impressive enough. As if the civilian casualties consist of women, children and the elderly aren’t satisfying enough, now they have to destroy a graveyard as well. Even the dead weren’t spared!

With the slaughter in Gaza Israel has successfully grabbing the dubious honor of becoming the most hated country in the world from their best friend the US. Israel has also succeeded in turning moderate Muslims (which never have contempt nor dislike for the Jews – at least not like other western Jews haters) into Jews haters and Osama's cheering squads if not outright supporters.

I for one who’ve never had any particularly strong feeling for Israel nor the Israelis/Jews – except that wishing for the government to never formalize a relation with Israel until they recognize Palestine, now is hoping for the government to send our own troops to Gaza or at least permit our young men who want go overseas to do their jihad in Gaza, and to stop any cooperation and dealing with Israelis until indefinitely.

I also found myself understanding the hatred felt by some to the Jews. Hatred which have its origin in their understanding of Scriptures. I start to see Israel as an evil force, and the Jews as individuals who have no thoughts for others except themselves. How could I not? They decide to punish the Palestinians for the annoyance caused by the rockets fired to their region by blockading Gaza for almost 2 years and slaughtering its population. Their tit for tat is done base on their sense of justice, which is non existence. Their argument that other country would've reacted exactly the same was laughable. What other country would exactly do like what they did except for their beloved friend, the US? That's why they're buddies because they're so alike. Look at India, they didn't go attacking, or nuking their neighbour after Mombai attack.

If holocaust happened to other races, the lesson they learned would probably that if they ever have power they’ll make sure that it never happens again. To anybody. But this is the Jews we’re talking about, the race who defied God after being chosen, the bigger ingrate one could never find on the face of the earth. The lesson they learned is that they will do what ever necessary, by crook or by hook to keep themselves safe and free.

When I heard that Osama bin Laden had finally sent his new message calling for Jihad in Gaza, I felt like cheering him. Good for him. I also found myself wishing that he would live long enough to terrorize the Great Buddy of Israel and other cowardly Arab leaders and bring his fight for once and for all into Israel. Imagine that! Support for terror and chaos from a peace loving girl like me!

I who was aghast when I found out that my own brother bought Osama bin Laden’s poster and regarded him as a hero who deserved to be idolized. This is from me who despises and considers those who designed, ordered and executed suicidal bombings which targeted civilians as evil. Just imagine how others more radical, others with more justified reasons, others who become the victims of Israel would feel.

The slaughter in Gaza which was precluded with almost 2 years blockade and has caused thousand of Palestinians lives, has succeeded in creating more enemies for Israel and the Jews. It has succeeded in raising support for Osama bin Laden, Al- Qaeda, and Hamas, regardless whether those supporting Muslims agree with their ideals, methods or goals. Those new supporters just want someone, anybody, who would stand up and stating their willingness to fight for the oppressed.

PS:

I see no peace in the future. There would be no peace as long as those with military powers have no intentions to have peace materialize.

If there is peace, there’s no more justification for their spending. What they need is continuous wars to practice and hone their skills in the battle fields.

Hence, we'll never see the ending of wars and conflicts.

Blame it on the Israelis

Who would’ve thought that it’s possible for our world to become a gloomier place to live in. With the global economic crisis, several wars on progress, and more wars in the making, everyone seems to incline to forget that once upon the time they’ve made an ambitious plan called MDGs. I guess with the war on terror being promoted by one of the most powerful world leaders, WMDs has no other choice but to usurp MDGs.

And as the results we have increasing numbers of suicides, homicides, and psychos running lose on the streets, in the workplaces, and practically every where with none the wiser. And let’s not forget the very real and stunning number of civilian casualties in various parts of the world. Not that those figures managed to stun those needed most to be stunned to turn the tragedy around.

We’re living in a very unhealthy and crazy environment where contradictions, hypocrisies and double standards are normal occurrences. In a feeble effort to keep my sanity in tact I avoid news channels, and immerse myself completely in one of my vises, watching various Korean, Taiwanese, and Japanese series. However, just like drinking, one can’t stay drunk forever. One has to finally wake up with the after effect and back to the unpleasant realities.

The world is definitely not a pretty place to live in. Particularly for those caught up in the middle of conflicts and wars. Where no heroes rush to save the helpless victims, where no happy ending to look forward to and there’s always this certainty that regardless whether they’re right or wrong, the powerful will always prevail.

In the real life of our world, the voice of reason, and humanity have no effect nor power to change the world into a better place. We have been utterly deceived and manipulated to design a system that gives a free reign to limited few to shape and run our world.

And unfortunately for those stupid people, namely us, the gullible, the good citizen of the world, those few who run the world are the warmongers, the greediest and the worst among us.

Those who when told that the policy they’re taking are wrong and opposed by practically the whole world only said unconcernedly “So what?” Which is one of the most typical characters of those the worst among us. They simply don’t care about what other people think, what they care about is only that they get what they want. By the way, this is Dick Chaney I’m talking about in case you don’t know.

Those who when asked “Why are you bombing and attacking civilians?” justified his country’s actions by saying that “If you back down from attacking your enemies – the terrorists – simply because they are using civilians as their shield, then you’re giving a very wrong message to them!”

I got chill when I heard his justification. I wonder whether he’s listening to what he just said. Whether it’s possible that he doesn’t get the menace, the cruelty, the injustice, and the plain and simple fact of how wrong it is? Good guys, the heroes, the humane, the sane, don’t attack and kill civilians, NO MATTER WHAT. ONLY BAD GUYS DO THAT! ONLY TERRORISTS DO THAT!. But who am I kidding, in case you don’t know that’s Benyamin Netanyahu speaking.

The conflict between the Israelis and the Palestinians is the biggest deterrent to the world peace. Most of the countries in the world get this except for few. The world deserves a peace. It doesn’t deserve to be plagued and bothered by the constant fighting and bickering between these two. Nobody wants to witness the sufferings of the people who are caught up in the conflict between them. Certainly not on daily basis. Certainly not like what we’re witnessing recently.

And when the world is finally moved against Israeli’s attack on the Palestinians, and asking for immediate cease fire, guess who stands up to support Israeli’s right to attack to defend themselves from relatively harmless missiles fired by Hamas?

I’m not going to name names, suffice it to say that it’s a country which deemed it necessary to drop nuclear bombs in two big cities of its enemy simply to win the war, regardless of the civilians costs. It’s a country which deemed it necessary to attack and occupied other sovereign country simply to topple its leader.

I’m really sicken and tired by all the things I see happening in the various parts of the world. I hate that I have to say bye bye MDGs, welcome WMDs! Yes. I’m changing from against WMD to pro WMD! I’m that piss if you must know!

And to one of the biggest players in the world peace or should I say world's recent tragedy - the Israelis, please take off the gloves already! Stop playing nice for a few hours before continuing with your bombings. Get serious and get down to business. Drop all the pretense of being a good guy. Drop your WMDs in all the Palestine’s cities to finish them off, you don’t have to worry about a thing. Your great buddy will stand by your side.

The whole world will probably say their peace of mind for a relatively short time, but that’s all about it. No real sanctions. At least not in this world and not as soon nor as terrible as what some of us want to befall upon you.

Do it, and give us a peaceful world we need. I need my sanity back. I don’t want my blood pressure to skyrocketing whenever I accidentally turn my TV on.

The peace is not in the hands of the weak, it’s not in the hands of the needy. It’s in the hands of the powerful and the rich.

It’s not the Palestinians who are the major obstacle to peace. It’s the Israelis.

How to Begin 2009

With regards to this Blog, I might start with writing a number of reviews of kdrama and jdrama. The long holidays gave me the chance to finally watched few of those DVDs I bought.

But, it might take sometimes for my reviews to be available here for they are entirely dependent on my mood.

So to help you out, I'll give you some clues:

1) Don't listen to those who get upset by fake musicians in the Bethoveen Virus, this drama is actually very good. And I adore Kim Myung Min who plays Master Kang. What a great actor!

2) My opinion of Japanese drama has shifted greatly after watching Hotaru no Hikari. It is a must see. You just have to see it. It's so good that the moment I finished it I just want to watch it all over again. And I never feel that way about other series!

3) Painter of the Wind is also a good one. But I don't like how it ended.

Hopefully I'll get into the mood soon enough before the desire to write them disappear all together.

Flying Shoes: Lesson Learned

I could hardly believe my eyes when I saw the President of the United States dodging flying shoe over his head. It’s not an act in one of Monthy Python’s films. It’s the real time President who’s ducking that lowly missile. Not just once, but twice. Though he got a little help when the second missile flew his way, for the second pair of shoe was handily deflected by his counter part, namely, the Prime Minister of Iraq.

My mind was frozen for a few seconds it was completely empty of any thoughts - rather similar with my first reaction when I saw the twin tower hit by those planes right when I was mulling over my boring breakfast in our boarding house in Brussels.
But this time I was in the middle of a rather important task of grooming myself before setting off to work when my TV set showed that reality show.

Unlike 9/11 which left me in utter daze for quite sometimes, this time I got my faculty in relatively short time. Unfortunately, the one and foremost emotion that I felt was not to my liking at all. I was inundated with embarrassment.

I’m not an Iraqi, I’m not an American, and I don’t even like George W. Bush! I shouldn't I feel so embarrass by what happened to him. He’s the one who should be thinking about digging hole and hide for the rest of his Presidency.

Nonetheless, I do feel embarrass. Regardless of the fact that he’s probably one of the most hated person in the world right now for what he did to the Iraqi people – so perhaps deserved those shoes as a small payment for his deed – and I did my fair share of praying for his eternal damnation, I strongly feel that being a President he should not be brought so low in public.

However, the incident served as another proof of one of my beliefs that one shall pay or be rewarded for whatever one did. Sooner or latter. Other people may not know that those powerful people who abuse their power had already got punishment from the Almighty in their private lives (sooner) before getting their dues in the hereafter (latter).

But when those punishments made public, the whole world could see it. Personally, I think it was one of the worst punishments one could get. George W. Bush pays no respect to human rights, he humiliated his enemies in the most inhumane ways one could imagine (e.g. Abu Ghraib case) now he got his fair share of embarrassment.

Having said that, I must say that no matter how much we hate someone, we should never forget what is right and what is wrong. The fact that the one we hate do wrong bad things doesn’t give us a free pass to do and act like them. Nothing justified wrong bad things not even when it’s done by the victims. Once we lost this understanding than we have crossed the border and lost our humanity and become exactly like those we hate.

What Other Presidential Hopefuls Should Learn from Obama – Mc.Cain Debates

If the world could vote in the US 2008 Election it will vote for Obama.

Here are the whys to be considered by other presidential hopefuls who are heading towards their own debates:

He looked calm and sincere.

He showed respect to his opponent.

He didn’t seem to be overly offended by aggressive and offensive words delivered by his opponent.

He didn’t lower himself to the same level as his opponent even when he got the chance and valid reason to do that and therefore showed the excellence of his character (e.g. his restraint not to trash Palin)

He tried to elaborate and be straight on difficult questions and defending his records in calm, organised and reasonable manner.

PS.

The excellence of one character is not judged by how he deals and treats those who are close and dear to him but by how he treats those he despises and hates.

Results of the US Presidential Debates

At first, like most of other world citizens, I’m very pleased when I heard that a black man is running for a President in the US. Not just because he’s black but because he’s young and seemed to be honest enough, with good and pleasant manner. Not to mention down to Earth. In short, a complete opposite of how Americans are perceived.

I sincerely hope that he could become the next President of the US to end many conflicts around the world specifically between the Israeli and Palestinians. However I lost my hope when I heard his policy regarding America’s best Ally.

He turned out to be no different than any other guy running for office. He also sung the same mandatory love song for their beloved Ally. With that kind of song he would never be fair when it comes to Israel and Palestine's issues. I stopped paying attention to the US Presidential Election news.

However it’s impossible to be deaf and blind on a topic which is considered as the hottest news this day. I ended up watching the 1st and 2nd Presidential debates. And here are the results:

I dislike how Mc.Cain behaved during the 1st debate. He didn’t look nor talk directly to Obama. He brilliantly managed not to even mention Obama by his name. It showed unbelievable amount of arrogance and condescension. Who wants a President who couldn’t even show a common courtesy to his opponent?

On the second debate I didn’t hear a new thing on the substance. But on the character side, I learnt quite a lot e.g. Mc.Cain finally managed to address Obama directly by calling him THAT ONE, he also once again showed his brilliance by turning his back on Obama, when Obama was shaking hands with his wife to avoid him. And he sounded really cheap with his many ‘my friends’ (the first time I actually had someone addressing me as my friend was in a presentation in a teahouse in China).

Both candidates attacked each other quite often, however, Mc. Cain looked angry, disgruntled and mean spirited, exactly like his campaigns which are more negative than Obama’s.

PS.
I wonder whether the US Presidential Campaign will be this tight if Obama is white. And it scares me to imagine McCain as US President. I think the world has enough of War President. The world needs someone who thinks and sees others as their equal.

Someone who doesn’t comfortably invent massive lies to justify what their want. Does Mc.Cain have that qualities? From what I learnt through their debates the answer is a big NO.
